Cryolipolysis
Freezing fat cells is an effective way to lose several centimeters in circumference.
The procedure, known as cryolipolysis, is a non-invasive method that supports weight loss.
Why is it worth it?
After the treatment, the amount of fat tissue decreases, and the frozen fat cells are permanently eliminated—they do not regenerate. Additionally, body cryolipolysis with applicators can be performed on hard-to-reach areas such as the arms in slim individuals.
What does the treatment look like?
During cryolipolysis, a device is applied to the skin, which suctions the tissue and cools it. The low temperature triggers a controlled inflammatory response within the fat cells, prompting the body to eliminate them. Selected body areas can be cooled down to -14°C, though sometimes +3°C is sufficient. One application of the cooling device lasts about 40–60 minutes.
How to prepare for the procedure?
Chemical peels should be avoided for 1–2 weeks before and after the treatment. Also, 2–3 days before and after the session, avoid sunbathing, tanning beds, saunas, and hot or highly chlorinated baths.
What areas can be treated?
Cryolipolysis is primarily used on the upper thighs, abdomen, hips, and saddlebags. A single visit can reduce fat in the treated area by approximately 20–40%. Depending on a specialist’s recommendation, a series of 3 to 6 sessions may be performed.
Contraindications
Cryolipolysis must not be performed on certain areas of the skin, such as wounds, abrasions, moles, or tattoos. It is also not suitable for individuals with psoriasis, vitiligo, lichen planus, infections, skin allergies, or inflammation. It should be avoided during menstruation, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. Other contraindications include:
- Blood clotting disorders
- Epilepsy
- Raynaud’s disease
- Cancer
- Diabetes
- Hemophilia
- Thyroid disorders (both hyper- and hypothyroidism)
- Cryoglobulinemia
- Hypoproteinemia
- Liver and kidney disease
- Heart conditions
- Implanted medical devices (e.g. pacemakers)
Expected results
Results become noticeable about two months after the first session, once a significant portion of the frozen fat cells has been removed. The treatment process is typically complete after four months, with effects lasting at least six months. Maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle reduces the likelihood of new fat cells forming.
