Bruxism, Teeth Grinding, Jaw Clenching

The primary symptom of bruxism is hypertrophy and increased tension in the masseter muscles. This leads to several consequences: tooth wear, noticeable jaw muscle tightness, changes in facial shape (a more square and “masculine” appearance), as well as persistent headaches, neck pain, earaches or ringing, disrupted saliva production, and general discomfort.

In some cases, bruxism may also cause increased tension in the shoulder girdle muscles.
An effective treatment is botulinum toxin injections, which weaken the muscles just enough to bring noticeable relief within a few days after the procedure—while also softening the facial features.
